Our New Prioress Elect


Sister Maria Goretti DeAngeli, OSB

Was elected the 12th Prioress of St. Scholastica Monastery on Sunday, April 19, 2009 by the members of St. Scholastica Monastery, Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Sister Maria is a native of Lake Village, Arkansas. She was born to Lois and Angelo DeAngeli on December 27, 1934. She is the eldest of seven in her family. Her brothers are Santo (deceased), Paul, Andy, and John David. Her sisters are Dianna and Regina. Sister has a host of nieces and nephews.

She entered the monastery at age fourteen and celebrated her golden jubilee just a few years ago with Sister Leona Marie Selig.

She is an educator, well traveled and holds a deep love for scripture and the monastic life. She has previously served the community as sub-prioress, formation director, manager of the monastery gift shop, parish administrator and director of religious education in many Arkansas parishes.
